One of the newest additions to the Pratt Street fam, The BOP recently opened their cafe in the lobby of Refuge Tattoos earlier this spring. We’re big fans of The BOP for their selection of house-roasted coffees featuring wide range of blends and single origins including Colombia, Tanzania, Haiti, and The Dominican Republic. They also specialize in house-made chai which is so good and perhaps the best chai in Connecticut? Dare we say?
What sets The BOP apart: They have a unique coffee brewing system for their batch coffee using the Ground Control Cyclops brew tower. Ground Control brews your coffee grounds by dispensing water in the brew basket. The system then uses a vacuum pump to pull out the brewed coffee, halting the extraction process by drying the grounds. It then brews the same grounds again, using fresh water and blending them from the same grounds. This process allows for the freshest and most precise brew possible.
We love: Their Vietnamese Iced Coffee and Iced Chai
Hours: Open six days a week Tuesday-Wednesday 8 AM-3 PM, and Thursday-Sunday 8 AM-6 PM

Victus Coffee is the roasting company behind J. Rene Coffee Roasters in West Hartford. This spot recently opened in early spring 2024 on Main Street.
What sets them apart: Besides delicious coffee, Victus prides itself in giving back to its community. They are partnered with several organizations, including Connecticut Foodshare, to whom they were able to donate more than 200 bags of coffee, equivalent to about $3,600. For every bag of coffee and piece of merchandise sold, $2 is donated across six organizations they have partnered with to fuel the community through coffee.

Located on Pratt Street, Bloom Bake Shop is a bakery and flower shop rolled into one adorable and charming space. In addition to blooms and treats, they offer a range of coffee and tea beverages as well.

This vintage-style shop on Trumbull Street specializes in housemade sodas, milkshakes, floats, and fun coffee creations. While their coffee menu is limited, they have found fun ways to tie in coffee & ice cream together with their own take on a classic, the affogato.
If you’re not in the mood for a sweet treat, no problem. They also offer drip coffees, cold brew, and espresso-based drinks like lattes and cappuccinos. Two of their specialty lattes are the S’mores Latte, Mocha latte with whipped cream, graham cracker crumbs, and a toasted marshmallow, and the Caramel Corn Latte, Espresso, salted caramel, whipped cream, topped with caramel corn. Either can be made hot or iced!
We love: The Emrey’s Affogato is A double shot of espresso poured over two scoops of ice cream, housemade almond syrup, crushed almonds, and Hershey’s chocolate.
Their coffee beans are from Those Guys Coffee Co., a small-batch coffee roaster located in New Hartford, CT.
Hours: They recently expanded their hours for the summer season; Wed-Thursday and Sunday, 11 AM- 8 PM, Friday-Saturday 11 AM- 10 PM
You can find Story & Soil in the Frog Hollow neighborhood right on Capitol Ave. Since opening their Hartford location back in 2017, they have made themselves well known within the coffee community.
Originally, the inside was tight and could only fit about nine people comfortably, so they recently underwent renovations to expand their capacity to make their space more warm and inviting. Which makes it the perfect space to catch up with friends or get some work done. While they don’t roast their own coffee, they frequently rotate specialty coffee roasters a couple of times per year.
We love: They rotate their drink specials seasonally, but their Spanish Latte is a fan favorite throughout Hartford.
Hours: Open Monday- Thursday 8 AM- 3 PM, Friday 8 AM- 4 PM
You may know FXF for their incredible happy hour, and their mission to give back to the community. But did you know they have a full-service cafe as well? FXF features local coffee roaster Beens’ Beans, owned by @bennys__beans, who is also the cafe manager at FXF.
We love: Their flagship blend is the Frog Hollow Blend, which was specially created for FXF in honor of the Frog Hollow Neighborhood.
What sets them apart: Embracing third-wave coffee culture, FXF fosters a "third space" where community thrives beyond home and work. The café prioritizes artisanal brewing methods, quality beans, and customer education. By creating an inviting atmosphere, they offer a neighborhood hub for socializing, working, and enjoying exceptional coffee experiences.
Besides Beens’ Beans, they also carry Those Guy’s Coffee Co. and Ovalle Coffee, two local coffee roasters.
Hours: Open Tues-Friday 7:30 AM- 3:00 PM, Sat & Sun 10 AM- 3 PM
Ever since joining the Hartford coffee scene in 2021, Semilla Cafe + Studio has become a neighborhood hub, carving out a vibrant and accessible space for the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities in and around the Hartford area. Semilla is a multi-roaster shop and rotate their offerings throughout the year. Currently, they use Maquina Coffee Roasters, an LGBTQA+-owned roaster located right outside of Philadelphia, PA.
We love: Their menu offers a variety — from classic drip coffee to Cafe Bustelo, a Cuban Classic. However, they offer many unique creations like their Love Potion Chai, made with Organic Assam black tea, ginger, exotic spices (and love, of course!)
What sets them apart: Semilla hosts a variety of events throughout each month — which include Jam Sessions, and book clubs. They also share their space with local vendors to support locally owned Black and Latinx businesses
